University degree in Chemical Engineer, 1974, Instituto Superior Técnico, Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal; PhD in Chemistry, 1993, University of Gent, Belgium; recognized by Instituto Superior Técnico, Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal 1994; Habilitation by Instituto Superior Técnico, Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal; until 2011 – Principal researcher with habilitation at ITN.


1998-April 2011 – coordinator of the group for studies of Atmospheric Elemental Dispersion, renamed in 2008 as Neutron Activation in Environment, Nutrition and Epidemiology. Supervising – a) Co-Supervisor of 11 PhD theses finalized with success (7 at Delft Technical University/The Netherlands; 2 at IST/Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal; 2 at Aveiro University, Portugal); b) Actual co-supervisor of 1 PhD thesis (Delft Technical University/The Netherlands); c) Participation in 15 PhD juries.


Member of Engineering Union. Member of the International Scientific Committees of INCC, NAMLS, k0 Users, BioMAP. Main organizer of 4 conferences/workshops. Research interests: Main – Quality control/ISO 17025; Development of Nuclear Analytical Techniques; Biomonitoring; Atmospheric Pollution: Nutrition; Epidemiology. Other interests – Fisiology; Speciation; Radiochemistry. Reviewer of international scientific journals – The Science of Total Environment, Chemosphere, Environmental Pollution, Journal of Radioanalytical Nuclear Chemistry, Biological Trace Element Research, Atmospheric Environment, Applied Radiation and Isotopes, among others; several publications.
